Shortcut / Hot keys

Shortcut keys (or Hot keys) allow common functions to be carried out using the keyboard rather than the mouse. They are a particular combination of keys that have been programmed to carry out a particular function in an application. Shortcut keys require the pressing of the designated keys at the same time. Often they use Ctrl, Shift or Alt in combination with a letter or number. For example many applications use Ctrl + S to Save or Ctrl + P to print. They are quick to use so they save you time.
